Origin: Originally developed and maintained by Furth from 1928 to 1936 as a leukemia strain, then random bred at Rockefeller Institute, followed by 9 generations of brother x sister mating by Rhoades in 1936. Additional inbreeding by Lynch from 1940 to 1948, then obtained by Law in 1948. To NIH in 1956 at F53 from Law. To Charles River in 1982 from NIH.
